This course is designed to prepare students for work in a variety of instructional areas that involve working with children including preschool/daycare and primary grades. This course will focus on the areas of physical, cognitive and social-emotional child development from birth to age nine. Students will learn and apply theoretical knowledge and developmentally appropriate practices in the classroom. Students will gain insights into health and safety, nutrition, positive guidance, learning theories, cultural diversity, child abuse, classroom management, and curriculum activities. Students will explore the competencies and characteristics of a successful early childhood education program and will participate in the implementation of curriculum that spans developmental domains and curriculum areas of all core subject areas, including music/movement, nutrition, storytelling, and dramatic play. Students will engage in career readiness skills for teaching through mock interviews, creating portfolios, completing applications, working as teams, and creating lesson planned activities.

This course includes a broad series of lessons and activities that offer a variety of modalities for ultimate student engagement and content retention. Each unit contains a series of lessons that include an introduction of content, a virtual demonstration of that content, and repeated opportunity to practice that content, along with a quiz per lesson, exam per unit, and final exam at the end of the course.
